For you

If you want to find out what helps you to fly more safely and what makes you an unsafe pilot, then take half an hour, find a quiet place, take the mind map shown below and try to categorise yourself under the various topics, preferably directly under the sub-items:

+A solid basis in place
oOn the right track, but still work to do
Need to catch up, I have to work on this

You can also ask yourself: How well do I know about this topic? How susceptible am I to this issue? Is this issue causing me problems or is it working for me?

During or after you have completed the mind map for reflection, you can use the mind map for goals as a notepad. You can ask yourself “How and where can I work on myself?” and immediately write down a few specific ideas and set goals. Smaller goals that you can tackle soon are best.

You can find the mind maps as a two-page PDF to print out under Downloads.

Mind map for goals

For your group

If you would like to work together on the topic of paragliding safety, you can proceed as follows:

  1. Think about the two mind maps shown above on your own
  2. Exchange ideas in small group(s) and define personal goals
  3. Get together and exchange personal ideas & goals

It is important to always emphasise positive experiences instead of exchanging flying stories and spreading negative experiences.

You can find the mind maps as a two-page PDF to print out under Downloads.

Step 1

The central questions when going through the mind map for reflection are

  • What helps me to fly more safely?
  • What makes me an unsafe pilot?

Each of you can try to categorise yourselves under the various topics, preferably directly under the sub-items:

+A solid basis in place
oOn the right track, but still work to do
Need to catch up, I have to work on this

You can also ask yourself: How well do I know about this topic? How susceptible am I to this topic? Is this issue causing me problems or is it working for me?

You are welcome to use the mind map for goals as a notepad. You can ask yourself “How and where can I work on myself?” and immediately write down a few specific ideas and set goals.

Step 2

You can discuss the following points in the small group:

  • ideas and opportunities to work on yourself in the various areas
  • positive experiences with opportunities for further development → Where did I feel safer afterwards, had more fun!
  • new aspects of the topic of safety
  • existing areas and sub-items of the mind map for reflection

During your exchange, each of you can write down further ideas, as specific as possible, on how and where you can work on yourselves. Ideas that you can set yourself as a personal goal and tackle soon are best.

Step 3

Now you come together as a whole group and if you like name one or all of your ideas and goals or simply the focus areas that became clear through the self-assessment.
